The first Wincentive weekend by Valamar was held last week.
Primarily the objective was to educate bartenders and managers employed by Valamar who hadn’t had the opportunity to do so by themselves. During the 4 day education they’ve perfected the production of syrups, gins, marmalade’s, numerous infusions and they learned how to ice-crave.
In addition, they had the opportunity to compete and learn about the latest trends in mixology after the president of our Association – Zoran Lukić, held his Masterclass. The total number of participants was 40, including the 23 competitors.
We have to say that the contestants showed off their skills when it came to making and serving of the cocktails. You best believe that their creativity and passion for the business was rewarded! Every single one of them had to pull a piece of paper from a shaker, every paper had a different theme that the contestants had to obey during the competition.
The first place went to the excellent Denis Španjol, who works at Eva Sunny Hotel & Residence in Rab. With the first place he also took home the cup and the title of the best bartender in Valamar! Antonio Zuliani, from Girandella in Rabac, took second place and third place went to Benjamin Hlevnjak form Pical Sunny Hotel in Poreč. Best performance? That belongs Danijela Šimurina, from the Hotel Diamant where the competition took place.
The following contestants found themselves among the top 10:
On the first day, Marko Jovanović held a class on Silvio Carta Vermouth. The grappa course also had some guest lecturers from the famous Italian distillery – Grappa Nonino. This class was followed by a Cocktail Masterclass led by our own Zoran Lukić in which he taught everyone, everything there is to know about cocktails. The day ended with a big after party that was held for everyone present.
There was also a coffee training by Franck class that was led by lecturers Josip Novačić and Domagoj Perić. Together they revealed little sweet secret about coffee and they gave us a lot of good tips on how to prepare it the best way possible.
The best way to blend food and wine flavors? Sandi Paris know the answer! After the lecture on exemplary wines, the participants of the Wincentive weekend now know too. The class was excellent, and Sandi got some help from the phenomenal Danijel Šarušić!
After the courses, everyone was taken to Rossi Wine Distillery. They greeted everybody and showed us all of the benefits of their winery. We also got a chance to taste the Nostromo gin in a combination with the Three Cents tonic. 😍 On the return to the Hotel Diamant, Teja Lovrenščak hosted us, shared her knowledge and gave us some taste of the Zacapa 23 rum which she paired with chocolate.
After all that we learned and tasted, the education on Havana Iconica Collection, held by the professional Marko Benković, gave us a real breath of Cuba. Alongside premium alcoholic beverages nothing is a better match than a real cigar from the Havana Shop. Thanks to the education given by Mario Matijević, now we also know how to choose in order to get the best possible combination.
While we are still under the impressions, we must say one thing for sure – the first event of this kind in Valamar exceeded all of our expectations, and we look forward to repeating it next year!
