Best Hotel Barmen Competition – Rabac

The only competition of this kind in Croatia

The Croatian barman section with the UPUHH created a barmen competition entitled ‘BEST HOTEL BARMEN’ from 25-27 April 2019 at Family Life Bellevue Hotel in Rabac.

The competition is made up of two categories; before and after dinner cocktail, and making of 4 signature cocktails in 12 minutes.  In the sense of the evaluation the judges will be looking at the scent, the taste, the look, the professional work, the presentation, the relationship with the guests, the skill and the show provided by the barman.

Out of 36 qualified competitors, 18 of them will enter the semifinals, from which the top 3 finalists will be selected from each category. The final will require each of the bartenders to prepare 5 cocktails within 10 minutes.

The emphasis is on showing their creativity in making and presenting cocktails, as well as showing how cocktails can be served in a special and personalized way at hotel bars.

Rules

BEFORE DINNER CATEGORY
  • Prepare 2 cocktails
  • Duration of cocktail design is 6 minutes
  • Competitor is obliged to use 2 cl of beefeater gin, 1 cl monin liquor or 1 cl odk puree 
  • In the before dinner category maximum usage of puree or liquor is 1 cl
  • Obligated usage of sponsored products, if the sponsor doesn’t have that in  the back, competitors can use other products
  • Cocktail may have a maximum 7 cl of alcohol 
  • Cocktail may have a minimum 7 cl and maximum 1,5 cl of liquid
  • Cocktail can’t have more than 6 ingredients 
  • Decorations must be edible 
  • Making of the decoration lasts for 25 minutes and it’s prepared in preparations before competition
  • Prohibited use of domestic products
  • Recepture must be original 
  • Organizer provides the drinks
  • The competitors provide other drinks
  • Organizer provides the glasses 
  • A competitor may use his own glasses
  • Competitor uses personal equipment for the making of the cocktails
  • Expert work, smell, taste and appearance are evaluated
AFTER DINNER CATEGORY
  • Prepare 2 cocktails
  • Duration of cocktail design is 6 minutes
  • Competitor is obliged to use 2 cl of havana club rum, 1 cl monin liquor or 1 cl odk puree
  • Obligated usage of sponsored products, if the sponsor doesn’t have that in  the back, competitors can use other products
  • The cocktail can have a minimum of 7 cl of alcohol and a maximum of 1.5 cl of the mixers
  • Cocktail can’t have more than 6 ingredients 
  • Decorations must be edible 
  • Making of the decoration lasts for 25 minutes and it’s prepared in preparations before competition
  • Prohibited use of domestic products

  • Organizer provides the drinks
  • The competitors provide other drinks
  • Organizer provides the glasses 
  • A competitor may use his own glasses

The top 3 bartenders who enter the finals will find a mystery box in which ingredients will be:

  • Alcoholic Base
  • Two Syrups
  • Two Liquer
  • Three Kinds of Fruit
  • Spices
  • Dried Citrus
  • Two Kinds of Glass
  • Two Types of Juice

Finalists are obliged to use ingredients from the mystery box, and whether they will use everything in the cocktail or choose one of each. Additionally, the ingredients can also be used as decorations.

Competitors will be able to choose the category themselves and will have 6 minutes to prepare 2 cocktails. The best rated cocktail wins a special sponsor award.

The competition program starts on 25th of April 2019 at 12:00, and ends on 26. at 19:00 with a gala dinner and announcing the winner. Applications can be sent to [email protected]
